Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Tuesday May 23, 2017

While not on par with Olympic, Yellowstone and Grand Tetons we did enjoy Theodore Roosevelt National Park. It is similar to Badlands National Park and is in an area called North Dakota Badlands.  The name comes from the fact that President Roosevelt was responsible for the creation of many parks and owned a ranch here in the 1880s and credited much of his interest in conservation to the time he spent here.

Our campsite in the park
We camped in the park and had a nice secluded spot close to a river. No hookups, wifi, or phone service but it was peaceful, beautiful and only cost $7 a night.

Lots of Bison here but after Yellowstone this was the only picture we took.

Old ranch house

Lots of prairie dogs

Must be prairie dog nursery school

Lots of different layers and colors of rock

All kinds of shapes from domes to almost perfect rectangular blocks

More interesting erosion patterns.

Glad I did not step in that I am
