We finally met the Alaska Highway of ill repute. Today's drive from Destruction Bay to Tok, AK was not fun. Potholes and frost heaves were the order of the day making the short drive of 175 miles last over 6 hours but we survived with only a small chip in the windshield. But the scenery made up for the road, first we followed Lake Kluane and the Kluane River between the Kluane Mountain range and the Dawson Mountain Range.
Once we entered Alaska we passed by the Tetlin Wildlife Refuge and the Mentasta Mountains.
We finally got a break in the weather, even though it started out in the low 40's with rain, by the time we got to Tok we had sunshine and 60's. Finally got to take off the jackets and sweatshirts, sit outside and soak up some sun.
Met another fellow blogger today, Linda of "Because We Can II" came by the campsite and introduced herself. She and her husband Bob are also on the way to Valdez.
Tonight we all went to dinner at restaurant next door called Fast Eddy's and had a nice meal. Tomorrow we head for Valdez.
And in honor of the 4th of July, Nancy got this shot of a bald eagle.
Lovely pictures! Welcome to my home state! :)
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to meet you, continued safe travels on your tour. Sorry about your windshield chip.
ReplyDeleteSo now you have a window chip and a duck-tape door?
ReplyDeleteNow your truck and my Civic have matching windshields. And both chips are the result of a road trip!
