We had a free day today so we slept in. It was close to 40 deg last night so it felt good to stay in my nice warm bed. The day started out cloudy and cold but eventually cleared up some in the afternoon and warmed up to about 60.
We went shopping this morning then this afternoon we visited a couple of city parks. Both parks overlook the water with mountains on the other side.
The snow covered mountains to the right are part of the Alaska Coastal range. They look like they are floating in the sky.
This is a whale skeleton
We went for a short hike and came across this moose grazing near the trail.
Tomorrow we head for Homer and probably will not have internet access for a few days.
Gas in Anchorage is $3.34 for regular but at least groceries are not much higher.
Awesome photo of the moose peeking through the greenery and flowers, it should win a contest somewhere!
ReplyDeleteToday as we were heading to Anchorage from Ninilchik (where we met Gene on your blog roll) we saw some RVs with the GS Caravan on them. I figured it might be your group since I knew you were in Anchorage last. I checked your blog (on my phone) and saw that indeed you were traveling south to Homer. Not much later we saw you guys (just south of Soldotna) and we honked our airhorn. Not sure you saw us...but we saw you. Hope you are having a good time in Homer. The weather was SOOO cold for us. Nice and warm in Anchorage now!
ReplyDeleteThe moose looks really creepy in that second photo.
ReplyDeleteI think Linda has the right idea... you should look for photo contests to enter when you get back! You have plenty of amazing photos :) it might be too hard to pick which ones to enter though!
