The Detour

Wednesday night we stayed at the Hitchcock Nature Park near Council Bluffs. It was a very nice campground on a hilltop with a view of the river and sunset.

I-29 was closed north of Council Bluffs but the detour we planned to take had a low bridge so we had to find another route.  The detour we chose involved some gravel roads and while making our way up one of these roads a farmer working next to the road flagged us down and asked where we were going. We told him and he explained that several people had taken the road we were on only to find that it took them back to the highway with the low bridge. I showed him the route I had picked out and he agreed that was the best way but warned there might be some muddy spots from all the rain but we made it fine.
