On Monday we went to see the ruins of an old Roman fort called Vindolanda. This fort protected the northern border of the Roman territory . It is located just south of Hadrian’s Wall. The fort and surrounding town covered a large area. They are still excavating the site and we got to talk to some of the workers who said they had recently found several shoes and some documents . After viewing the ruins we went to the museum which had an amazing collection of artifacts including thousands of shoes, the most shoes found anywhere due to the soils they were buried in .
