Snow in May

Our campsite at KOA in Port Angeles
When I walked outside this morning I was surprised to see that the clouds had lifted enough for us to get our first view of the snow capped mountains in Olypmic NP.  The gray skies made them difficult to photograph so I had to manipulate them on the computer for clarity.

After breakfast we drove up to the Hurricane Ridge Visitor center and actually got up to snow level at about 4000 ft.

"Forgot my #%&#@ snow boots I did"

By the time we got to the visitor center the light rain had changed to light snow and the temperature had dropped from the mid 40s at our campsite to 29 deg F at the top.
We went back down the mountain and had lunch in Port Angeles then drove out to see Madison Falls.
When we arrived at the trail for the falls it was raining pretty hard so we kept driving to the end of the road and saw where the Elwha river dam used to be.  The dam was removed in the 1980's along with another dam on this river to allow the salmon to get up river to spawn.
This is where the reservoir was before the dam was removed

They left parts of  the dam to reduce removal costs

The Elwha river runs free once again

By the time we returned to the waterfall the rain had stopped so we took the trail to the falls which turned out to be a very short trail.

The rain started up again when we got back to the car so we decided to call it a day and headed back to town.

And Muffy's parents thought she would never amount to anything.

Just down the road from Muffy's

Tomorrow we head south, hopefully to warmer and drier weather.
