Olympic National Park - day 2

Friday 5/12/2017
The Northwest is living up to its reputation with more rain and cold last night and today.  This morning we went to the Hoh Rain Forest deep inside the park.  Fortunately, the rain stopped just long enough for us to get in a nice hike through the rain forest.  The lushness of the vegetation and the size of the trees is astounding.
Hoh River

Creek filled with downed trees

Downed trees everywhere

Some of these trees are 300 feet tall
The sun came out briefly to make everything glimmer and shine.

Everything is covered with moss

Resting from the long walk was Yoda.  Felt right at home he did.

Fallen tree roots covered in ferns

Fern fiddleheads

Reminds me of the Smokies

Those are some roots.  I kept thinking how many board feet is in this tree?

Large spruce that recently broke off.
We went back to the town of Forks for lunch (Where they filmed part of the movie Twilight for all you vampire fans), then drove back to the coast where we saw all the eagles yesterday. Since it was raining we just sat in the truck and watched them for a while.

Then this young eagle lands in a tree about 30 yards away but I could not get a clear picture of him.

The temperature stayed in mid 40s all day.  Gas was $2.93/gal for regular and our campsite is $21/night for water, electric, and wifi.
