Beautiful York

Yesterday was the warmest day we've had with temps in the 70's.  The day was sunny except for a brief shower after lunch. We took the train South to York.

Some nice farmland along the way.

Another view of Durham as we rode by.
York is one of the few cities to still have most of it's medieval walls still intact.(below)

Yoda watching over the ramparts for marauding northmen.

Fergal takes our picture

Fort near the wall is about 1000 years old

York minster Cathedral is immense, over 14 stories tall. (Above and below)

Some of the spectacular stone work

Portions of the cathedral are being restored
Workers are hand carving replacement stones using hand tools!
