Mardi Gras

This week finds us in Abbeville, LA reuniting with many of our travel companions from the Alaska trip last summer.  James and Yvette, our hosts, have done a wonderful job of entertaining and feeding us.  Nancy and I arrived Sunday but most of the group came down last Wednesday and have already attended a couple of Mardi Gras parades. We are staying at the Abbeville RV park which is run by the city and is very quiet and secluded and very cheap, only $20 per night.

Sunday night we had our first Cajun meal prepared by James and Yvette and it was delicious, but since I don't speak French I have no idea what it is called. Monday we visited the Tabasco factory and the adjoining Jungle Gardens.  I wish CMOP had a capper as good as the Tabasco factory, it can cap 6 or 7 bottles per second.

Got to taste some Tabasco ice cream which was surprisingly good.
The Jungle Gardens were nice even though not much is in bloom yet.  The gardens were started as a preserve for the white egrets which nest there. It is also home to several alligators.

It was very warm Sunday and Monday with temps near 80 and quite humid. Today (Tuesday) was much cooler and less humid but still very nice.  We went to the city museum and did some shopping.  James and Yvette cooked another delicious meal for us this evening and some of their friends came and entertained us with Cajun jokes.
