The Chicken Run

We literally got up the the chickens today as we headed for Churchpoint, LA for the Chicken Run.

Yesterday's cold front dropped temps into the 40s this morning and a brisk wind made it quite cold.

Some unlucky chickens

The Chicken Run is a Mardi Gras festival where costumed and masked riders go from house to house to ask for chickens for the feast to be held later in the day.
First comes the queen and her court

Here comes the band

The captain of the revelers greets the homeowner and asks
permission to enter the property

Permission received, he signals to the rest of the revelers

And the race is on!

The revelers entertain and dance with the spectators

A chicken is captured

A scramble for another chicken

Who's got it?

Once the chickens were all caught the entourage headed for the next house.

What fun this was!  We caught lots more beads to throw in the parade Tuesday.

Tonight we finally got to eat some boiled crawfish and it was delicious!

No wonder I've gained 4 lbs this trip!
