Skagway June 29th

Tuesday June 29

Today was our first full day in Alaska. Nancy and I went back into Skagway and took the National Park Service ranger tour of the city and did some shopping.

We came back to camp at 11:00am for caravan briefing on schedule for next few days.

After lunch we took the train up to the mountain summit and back. Our caravan group had a rail car to ourselves. We were treated to some spectacular views of the mountains and Skagway harbor.

After the train ride we looked around town some, bought some souvenirs then came back to camp for supper. It has been cloudy and cold here all day. Temps were in the 40s this morning and maybe got into the low 60s but the wind has gradually gotten stronger and colder so we won't be sitting outside tonight. We are going to turn in early since we have to get up early tomorrow for the ferry ride to Juneau.
No free Wifi here so I am going to wait until tomorrow to post.

  1. Funny that you say you won't be sitting outside because it's too chilly...here it's just recently gotten cool enough to be able to walk outside and still breathe and not go running back to the safety of air conditioning. I'm talkin like 88, but I'll take that over 98!
Trains are fun :) What a neat way to see the sights!
