Anchorage Sat July 10th

Another cool rainy day with temps in 50s and light intermittent rain. We took a short bus tour of Anchorage this morning.  Our first stop was the Ulu factory.
Ulus are half moon shaped knives used by the native Americans. Since most of the factory is closed on Saturday we basically just saw the gift shop.

Next we went to a street market which had a lot of crafts and food.  I had halibut on a stick for lunch which was good.

After the street fair we walked to the Anchorage Museum.  Several buildings in downtown Anchorage have nice murals painted on them.

We had a guided tour of the museum which was very interesting.  It had a lot of history about the natives in Alaska.

The flower gardens in front of the museum were gorgeous.

After the museum we went down to a small river to supposedly watch the salmon spawning but apparently they were not in the mood because we only saw a few.
The fishermen are getting worried because the salmon are not coming up the rivers like the usually do and some of the fishing seasons have been cancelled.
Our bus driver then took us out to the the seaport where the seaplanes are and we saw a large bull moose near the airport.
For dinner the campground sponsored a potluck cookout and had a band playing music. Afterwards Nancy and I played dominoes with Bruce and Sue Westgate from Mass.
