The Longest Day

Well, we survived our first day on the road.  We left at 5:45am and drove until 6:30pm, covering 732 miles.  It was hot and muggy when we left TN and stayed that way until we passed St. Louis.  It was 76 deg F. when we left home and was 92 when we got to St. Louis just before lunch. But after we turned north at Columbia, Mo the temp dropped to about 80 deg F.  There was evidence of heavy rain all over Mo. with swollen creeks and drowned fields but we did not get rained on at all until we pulled into the campground here in Rock Port, Mo. just a few miles from Iowa.

Before we could get the camper set up it started pouring rain so we just got in the camper and waited it out.  That's one of the advantages of travel trailer over pop up. We also found one of the disadvantages of the travel trailer today as our gas mileage dropped to about 10 mpg, about 33% less than when we were pulling the popup.  Gas prices ranged from $2.39 to $2.52 per gal.
I think I forgot to mention that our friend Yoda is accompanying us on this trip. Here is a picture of Yoda chillin' on a bag of ice and enjoying a cool one after a long day on the road.  He is probably thinking his deep thoughts as usual.

  2. We are in IL and there has been massive amounts of rain! I am impressed with how many miles you covered. We have days in the 500-550 range planned and I was thinking that is really pushing it.
